Hosting Engineer - Support Infrastructure and Management
Job Summary:
The Hosting Engineer is a seasoned professional responsible for providing advanced technical support to our clients while actively managing and maintaining our robust hosting infrastructure. This role requires a strong blend of troubleshooting expertise, system administration skills, and a commitment to ensuring high availability and performance of our services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advanced Technical Support (50%):
- Handle escalated client issues that require in-depth technical analysis, including complex website errors, database connectivity problems, and advanced email troubleshooting.
- Perform root cause analysis for recurring client issues and implement preventative measures.
- Assist clients with migration of websites and complex configurations.
- Educate clients on best practices for website performance and security.
- Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers, providing guidance and support.
- Infrastructure Management & Optimization (40%):
- Proactively monitor, maintain, and optimize server performance (Linux/Windows environments).
- Perform regular server updates, patching, and security hardening.
- Manage and troubleshoot network configurations, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Implement and verify backup and disaster recovery procedures.
- Identify and resolve system-level issues, including performance bottlenecks, resource contention, and service outages.
- Participate in the planning and execution of infrastructure upgrades and new deployments.
- Security & Compliance (10%):
- Implement and enforce security best practices across the hosting environment.
- Respond to and mitigate security incidents (e.g., DDoS attacks, malware infections).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience (3+ years).
- Proficiency in Linux system administration (CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian preferred).
- Strong understanding of web servers (Apache, Nginx), database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL), and scripting languages (Bash, Python).
- Experience with control panels (cPanel, Plesk).
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls).
- Proven experience in troubleshooting complex technical issues in a web hosting environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
